Citizenship Canada Permanently Closes the Express Entry Stream for Provincial Nominee Program

IRCC made a major update on the Express Entry programs

Effective immediately, no more new Express Entry applications in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) stream.

On July 6, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that they are indefinitely closing the Express Entry stream for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). This means that as of now, no more new Express Entry applications will be accepted in the PNP stream. It only accepts applicants who have already been nominated by a province or territory.

The Express Entry system is a points-based system that IRCC uses to manage applications for permanent residency in Canada. The PNP stream is designed to allow provinces and territories to nominate individuals who have the skills and experience that are in demand in their region.

IRCC states that the reason for closing the Express Entry stream for the PNP is to "streamline" the Express Entry system and to "improve the overall efficiency of the application process."

This change will likely have a significant impact on individuals who are looking to immigrate to Canada through the PNP. It is important for anyone who is considering immigrating to Canada to stay up-to-date on the latest changes to the Express Entry system.

What does this mean for you?

If you are planning to apply for permanent residency in Canada through the PNP, you will need to act quickly. No new applications will be accepted in the PNP stream after July 6, 2023.

If you have already been nominated by a province or territory, you can still apply for permanent residency through the Express Entry system. However, you will need to submit your application before July 6, 2023.

If you have not yet been nominated by a province or territory, you will not be able to apply for permanent residency through the Express Entry system. You will need to explore other options for immigrating to Canada, such as the Temporary Resident Visa program or the Family Sponsorship program.
