In a captivating second-leg clash, Borussia Dortmund overcame Atletico Madrid 4-2 on the night and 5-4 on aggregate to book their place in the Champions League semi-finals. After trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Dortmund produced a remarkable comeback at their Signal Iduna Park stadium.
Dortmund took the lead just after the break when Marco Reus fired home a penalty. Atletico Madrid responded quickly through Angel Correa's strike, but Dortmund surged ahead with goals from Jude Bellingham and Julian Brandt in the 74th and 85th minutes, respectively.
Atletico Madrid's Correa scored again late in the game, but it was too little too late as Dortmund held on to secure their first Champions League semi-final appearance since 2013.
Marcel Sabitzer, who scored Dortmund's winning goal in the first leg, celebrated the team's triumph: "It was a very tough game, but we never gave up. We knew we could do it, and we showed great character tonight."
Dortmund's victory sets up a mouth-watering semi-final tie, with the draw taking place on Friday, April 21. The German powerhouse will face either Manchester City, Liverpool, or Real Madrid for a place in the final.
